Analysis of errors in the selection and application of membrane water treatment equipment

Release Date:

In the application and promotion of membrane water treatment equipment, there are several common misunderstandings that need to be paid attention to and corrected:

First of all, "the newer the film material, the better the treatment effect." Although the development of new membrane materials continues to promote the advancement of water treatment technology, the selection of membranes should not be solely dependent on whether they are the latest research and development results. Each membrane material has its specific separation performance and scope of application, such as reverse osmosis membrane is good at desalting, ultrafiltration membrane is good at removing suspended matter and microorganisms. Therefore, when selecting membrane materials, the most appropriate membrane components should be selected according to the actual water characteristics and purification objectives, rather than blindly pursuing "new" technologies.

Secondly, the concept that "the greater the membrane flux, the better the effect of water treatment equipment" is also one-sided. Membrane flux refers to the flow of liquid through a unit area of membrane in a unit time, and indeed has an important impact on the efficiency of water treatment. However, high throughput is often accompanied by greater energy consumption and shorter service life. In order to achieve economical, efficient and sustainable operation, the configuration of the membrane system should take into account factors such as flux, pressure drop, life and maintenance costs to achieve the best cost performance.

In addition, "frequent replacement means poor film quality" is another common misconception. In fact, the service life of the membrane is affected by many factors, including raw water quality, pretreatment effect, operating pressure, cleaning frequency, and so on. High-quality membrane products may need to be cleaned or replaced more frequently in the face of a complex water environment, but this precisely reflects its good pollution interception ability and adaptability. And inferior film even if the initial performance is good, long-term use may have rapid performance decay, irreversible pollution and other problems, but increase the overall operating costs.

Finally, the view that "membrane water treatment is only suitable for large-scale industrial applications" also needs to be revised. With the miniaturization and modular development of membrane technology, today's membrane water treatment equipment has been flexibly applied to household drinking water purification, small community water supply systems, agricultural irrigation and other fields, showing strong application potential and social value.

To sum up, the correct understanding and reasonable use of membrane water treatment technology to avoid falling into the above misunderstandings will help us to better play its advantages in the process of water resource protection and utilization, and achieve the harmonious unity of economic benefits, social benefits and environmental benefits.
